RETREATS / PROGRAMS / REFLECTIONS FOR 2019

Loyola Centre of Ignatian Spirituality offers retreat and reflection opportunities to meet a wide range of spiritual needs and desires for individuals and groups. Some of these are established as part of our planned program, but opportunities are also available to develop options to suit specific individual or group needs.

They are a single, progressive and powerful experience of grace, built around personal prayer at home and guided spiritual conversation with a trained spiritual conversation guide, meeting weekly in a small group focussing on prayer, sharing and discernment.

JOURNEYING WITH THE MYSTICS: FALLING IN LOVE WITH GOD WITHIN

Mystics can seem very different from us - in the first place they are so holy that God often manifests in their lives in often quite extra ordinary ways. Secondly, they had lots of time for prayer. They had monasteries, abbeys and hermitages to allow them to shut out the world. Surely their lives were simpler that ours.

This 'five-session reflective series' during the year will highlight it is very difficult, often lonely and sometimes dangerous circumstances these women and men lived with. They were active in their communities, the Church and even international politics. It doesn't matter if you can't attend all sessions as each will be self-contained.

Maybe their lives are not very different from ours. All of the mystics we have chosen to focus on lived lives that had to balance action and contemplation. The other attribute they share with us is a deep desire to come closer to God and to trust totally in the knowledge that God made us, God loves us and God desires to be One with us.

You are invited to walk in the footsteps of the mystics to deepen your relationship with God?

CONTEMPLATIVE RETREAT: CREATING AN ICON

The traditional icon has very strict boundaries and parameters and the work of the iconographer is dedicated to the greater glory of the holy person being depicted. We will use this scaffold as a way to explore prayer, Working with a template, retreatants will produce an icon, employing personal symbols, metaphor and story to articulate the work. Icons lead us into the inner room of prayer and bring us closer to the heart of God, they are holy places, not decorations. This retreat gives an opportunity to both create an icon and to prayerfully gaze. No art making experience is required.

NURTURING THE 'SPACE BETWEEN THE LOGS'

We generally thrive on the energy that ignites the work we do, but often we can become overwhelmed by the never ending list of the things we are doing. Like a fire, piling on too many logs too tightly, the flame inside us can begin to wane, even solder at times. This day of gentle reflection is an opportunity to pause, find and create the spaces in our life that with nurturing, will allow the spirit to shine through and keep the fire burning - 'How can I pay more attention to the way, on a daily basis, I 'stack the logs'
